Justin’s journey with gambling began at age 18. While studying at York University, he was introduced to Texas Hold’em Poker—and quickly became hooked. His friends nicknamed him “Pokes” as he spent free time playing small tournaments with $50–$100 buy-ins.
He even won his very first sit-and-go with 16 players, which sparked a habit of regularly flipping profits.
When Justin wasn’t in class, he was playing online poker, logging hundreds of thousands of hands on PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker across multiple screens.
Soon, he moved into the Greater Toronto Area underground poker scene. The first few nights ended in losses, but after thousands of hours of practice, he began winning consistently, taking home $200–$500 in casino sessions.
A close friend later introduced him to sports betting. At the time, Ontario only allowed Pro-Line wagers, which required choosing 3 game outcomes. After repeatedly losing by just one game, Justin grew frustrated with the unfair odds. This pushed him to research offshore sportsbooks that allowed single-game betting—and that’s when a new opportunity opened up.
By 2006, Justin was a regular in the Toronto poker scene, grinding 2-5 No Limit Hold’em and making anywhere from $400 to $1,200 in a single session—though losses were part of the journey too.
On weekends, he and his friends often drove to Niagara Falls for marathon poker nights. The late drives left him exhausted and struggling to balance school, so he switched to part-time studies to focus on both education and poker.
In 2008, Justin moved into his own apartment. While many students spent money on parties, he invested in a 55-inch LG TV—the biggest available at the time. It became his setup for both poker sessions and sports betting. He began traveling to Niagara Falls and Rama casino up to five times a week, eventually taking buses instead of long drives.
He even tested his skills in Las Vegas, playing 6–24 hour sessions across the Strip; seeking the best value for soft games and weak players.
He eventually evolved with confidence to playing higher stakes buy-ins at 5-10 No Limit Holdem and eventually played high stakes buy-in of 10-25 and 25-50 No Limit Holdem at Fallsview Casino Resort when games were available.
During those Vegas trips, he noticed how close sportsbooks were to poker rooms. That sparked an idea: if sports bets cashed, poker became less risky. This approach worked well, and Justin started building betting systems, testing them for years before putting them into action in 2011.
Everything changed on Black Friday (2011), when U.S. authorities shut down online poker platforms. With online play gone and live games drying up, Justin leaned heavily into sports betting.
After graduation of York University degree in 2012; he launched illuminatisports.ca, offering betting picks online. By 2014, he earned a spot on Sportsbook Review’s NFL handicapper show on Youtube, where he went 67% against the spread over 40 documented picks. His success put him on the map, though personnel changes eventually ended his role there.
Justin didn’t stop. He expanded into betting on NFL, NHL, MLB, NBA, NCAA football and basketball, PGA Tour, and UFC. His bets grew larger, his confidence stronger, and his results more consistent.
Today, Justin is recognized as one of the most consistent sports bettors in the world. While he doesn’t claim massive 7-figure wins, he has made millions in settled bets through steady, disciplined wagering. He splits his time between the Greater Toronto Area and Las Vegas, often found at sportsbooks refining his craft.
